You reveiw a product in your niche. You write a real testimonial. You get your link on the page. That's one reason why you want to review products in your niche, or related to your niche - so you get a relevant link.

Now you put a review of the product on your site, or blog - with your affiliate link of course.

When the customer comes to the site, they see that you indeed have not only used the product, but thought enough of it to provide a testimonial. Your credibility just sky-rocketed.

(Most programs will allow you to sign up for an affiliate, and then buy the prudct from yourself. Just remember to clear your cookies first. )

Some program owners might even work with you and provide a keyword optimized link. Never hurts to ask.
